Omeprazole in the Treatment of Duodrnal Ulcer in Korean Patients

Abstract
The clinical efficacy and safety of omeprazole was evaluated in 41 Korean patients with end.scopicallyproven duodenal ulcer of at least 5 mm diameter. All patients were treated with omeprazole 20mg once every morning for 2-4 weeks depending on rate of ulcer healing. The healing rates were 32 37 (86.5%) at 2 weeks and 40/40 (100%) at 4 weeks. The symptom relief achieved by omeprazole was very rapid with about half of the patients pain-free within the first day of treatment. None of the patients complained of any adverse event throughout the study. There were no clinically significant changes detected in the haematological and biochemical parameters.
In conclusion, omeprazole 20mg daily was a safe, highly effective and well-tolerated treatment for duodenal ulcer in Korean patients producing excellent healing rates of 86.5% in 2 weeks and 100% 4 weeks.
